Jon Dyer


On January 25, 2023 Jon Dyer, loving husband and father passed away at age 75 after a long battle with cancer. Jon was born April, 2, 1947 in Malta, Montana to Joseph Sanford Dyer and Helen (Thrash). Jon was a proud 24 year Veteran of both the Navy and the Air Force. He retired in 1988 and worked as a nurse in Coeur d'Alene until he retired again in 2005.


Jon and Donna met in 1978 at Randolph Air Force Base in Universal City Texas. They married in November 1985 in Roy, Utah while stationed at Hill Air Force Base. They continued to raise their blended family while building a new life with each other recently celebrating their 37th Anniversary.


Jon loved music, tinkering with old cars and road trips. He had a wicked sense of humor, loved to laugh and had an old soul and a kind, loving and generous heart. Over the last few years he'd found a new enjoyment in the snowbird lifestyle.


Jon was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Sanford Dyer and Helen Cookingham, son James Dyer, daughter Brandi Dyer and brother Darrell Dyer.He is survived by his wife Donna in Rathdrum, son Justin (Nicole) Dyer of Wisconsin, stepsons Alfred (April) Meckel Jr. of Rathdrum, Idaho, Donald (Kate) Meckel of Castle Rock, Colorado. Jon is also survived by his brothers Joseph (Ginny) Dyer of Thompson Falls, Montana and Dean (Gloria) Cookingham of Billings, Montana, sisters Linda (Jim) O'Tremba, Leila Cookingham, Gladys Espinoza,

Melody Benefiet and Tammy Clark all of Billings, Montana. Two of the greatest joys of Jon's life are his granddaughters Sydney Meckel (Frank) Dennis of Port Orchard, Washington and Madison Meckel of Lebanon, Oregon.


A memorial service is planned for May at the Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake, Washington
